Tennis Teams to Open Ivy Play Saturday
The Princeton tennis teams will begin their Ivy League seasons Saturday against Penn with the women home and the men in Philadelphia.
For the women (6-8), the Ivy opener will come after one last pre-conference match as Denver (9-7) comes to campus Friday at noon before staying in the Garden State to face Rutgers Sunday. The teams have met three times before, in 2001, 2004 and 2010, with Princeton winning the first and last meetings.
Penn (5-6) will come to campus to face the women's team Saturday at noon. The Tigers have won the last three meetings against the Quakers, and another win would make the current seniors the first class to sweep Penn since 1991.
Both home matches will be played at the Lenz Tennis Center unless inclement weather moves the match inside Jadwin Gymnasium.
Princeton's women enter the weekend at No. 70 in the March 27 rankings and have Hilary Bartlett at No. 96 on the singles chart and Bartlett and Lindsay Graff at No. 29 on the doubles list. Penn has Jules Rodin and Sol Eskenazi at No. 49 in doubles.
Princeton's men (9-8) will be at Penn for a 2 p.m. match Saturday. The Tigers have Matija Pecotic at No. 65 on the singles list and Matt Siow and Matt Spindler at No. 40 on the doubles list. The Tigers have won four straight against the Quakers, marking Princeton's longest winning streak in the series since taking seven in a row from 1998-2003.
