Despite putting the go-ahead run on in the ninth inning, the reigning Ivy League champion Princeton baseball team dropped a 9-7 contest Friday afternoon in the first of three games played at Pitt Field against the University of Richmond.

Princeton, which fell to 2-6 with the loss, entered the ninth inning trailing 9-6, but got a single from Matt Bowman and another single from Sam Mulroy to put men at first and second with one out. A Richmond error loaded the bases, and after a flyout, Tyler Servais was hit by a pitch to score Bowman. With the tying run on second, Nate Baird grounded into a fielder's choice to third base for the final out.

Alec Keller led the Princeton offense with three hits in five at-bats, while both Servais and Ryan Albert added two hits apiece. Mulroy scored two of Princeton's six runs, while Servais had a team-best four RBIs, including three on his first home run of the season.

Mike Ford took the loss after allowing six runs and eight hits in four innings. He struck out four and walked three. Kevin Link came in for four innings of relief and allowed three runs and five hits while striking out two.

Princeton led 3-0 after Servais' three-run shot in the top of the second, but the Spiders came right back with three runs in the bottom of the inning. Bryan Conway, who went 4-for-4 for Richmond, opened the fourth inning with one of his two home runs, and Richmond never trailed after that.

Princeton and Richmond will play the middle game of the series Saturday at 2.
