Ward Previews Bucknell Invitational

The No. 19 Princeton women's water polo team will hit the road to participate in the two-day four-game Bucknell Invitational from Feb. 18-19 in Lewisburg, Pa. The Tigers (4-0) will face Gannon, Marist, Siena and Wagner in their second weekend of action in 2012.

Bucknell Invitational Schedule:

Saturday, Feb. 18 vs. Marist - 8 a.m.

Saturday, Feb. 18 vs. Wagner - 2 p.m.

Sunday, Feb. 19 vs. Gannon - 11 a.m.

Sunday, Feb. 19 vs. Siena - 5 p.m.

Ward Named Defensive Player of the Week: Senior goalie Kristen Ward was named CWPA Southern Division Defensive Player of the Week after having a hand in three of the nationally-ranked Tigers' four victories at the Princeton Invitational last weekend. Ward posted a pair of 12-save performances on the weekend, en route to tallying 26 saves, two steals and an assist in 77:05 minutes of work. This was the second time in Ward's career she has earned the weekly honor.

Newcomers Make Strong Debut: The freshmen class proved to be immediate contributors, as all six newcomers saw action at the Princeton Invitational. The newbies made the adjustment to the collegiate game an easy one to help pick up the nationally-ranked Tigers on both the offensive and defensive ends of the pool. Ashley Hatcher led the way with four goals, two assists, two steals and a block.

In the Polls: The Tigers have been ranked in the CWPA Varsity Top-20 Poll all season, beginning the year with a preseason ranking of No. 18. After holding the No. 20 spot last week in their season opening weekend, Princeton moves up a place to No. 19 entering this week's action.

Scouting Marist: Marist, 1-7 overall, is coming off a 1-3 effort at the UC San Diego-hosted Triton Invitational from Feb. 11-12. The Red Foxes earned their first win of the season at the weekend tournament, 9-7, over Sonoma State. This season all seven losses have come to teams in the top-20 national poll. Desiree Deaulniers leads the Marist offense with nine goals and goalie Rebecca Thomas has made 64 saves and has a 10.56 goals against average.

Scouting Wagner: The Wagner Seahawks enter this weekend's tournament riding a 3-4 overall record. The squad is coming off 3-1 weekend at the Pacific Invite after opening the season 0-3. Sidney Hoshko leads the Seahawk offense with 13 goals and goalie Lauran Karback has 74 saves and an 8.42 goals against average.

Scouting Gannon: Gannon will open the year this weekend facing Brown, Marist, Princeton and Siena. The Golden Knights were 9-19 overall, 0-5 CWPA in 2011.

Scouting Siena: Siena will officially open its 2012 at the Bucknell Invitational. The Saints enter the year picked No. 5 in the MAAC Preseason Poll, following a 10-16 overall, 4-6 MACC 2011 season.
