The second-ranked Princeton open crew will spend its next month on the road, so it had one chance to give its home fans a lasting, positive memory. The Tigers did so in impressive fashion, winning the three top races against No. 5 Brown and No. 8 Michigan State and retaining The Class of 1987 Trophy with a hard-fought 2.5-second win over the Bears.

Princeton won each of the NCAA Championship-format races over Brown in tightly contested battles, meaning these two programs could be locked into even more important showdowns during the postseason.

The varsity eight battle went to Princeton in 7:03.8, while Brown placed second in 7:06.3 and Michigan State placed third in 7:10.0. The Tigers were the aggressors at the start and built a sizable lead over the first 500 meters. The Bears stayed in the race and picked up seats over the next 1,000 meters, but it was quickly clear that Princeton had something left in the tank. Head coach Lori Dauphiny watched her veteran crew regain a sizable edge to win the race by 2.5 seconds.

The second varsity race would take on the opposite format, as Brown was the team to jump out to a quick lead. A powerful start left the Tigers trailing early, but the composed and aggressive Tigers dominated the second half of the race. By the final 500, Princeton had assumed control and won in 7:15.2, while Brown finished second in 7:19.2

The closest of the top three races would be in the varsity four, but again Princeton had the final answer. The Tigers won in 8:03.7, while the Brown 'A' boat placed second in 8:05.9.

Princeton will head to the nearby Raritan to take on both Rutgers and Navy next Saturday.
