The 20-race win streak for the Princeton men's lightweight crew came to an end Saturday morning, but the upcoming EARC and IRA championship races got much more interesting. The second-ranked Harvard Crimson edged Princeton by .7 of a second to win the Goldthwait Cup, and the Crimson's overall team performance earned it the Vogel Cup.
Princeton, which hadn't lost a race since the 2008 opener against Navy and won both the EARC and IRA championships last season, will now enter the postseason as the No. 2, although only by the slimmest of margins. Harvard won the varsity race in 5:40.7, while Princeton placed second in 5:41.4. Both held a comfortable advantage over fourth-ranked Yale, which placed third in 5:52.6.
Princeton picked up a victory in the second varsity eight, finishing in 5:46.9 to top Yale by 4.5 seconds. The Bulldogs picked up a varsity win of their own, taking the 3V in 6:03.1. Princeton took third in 6:12.4.
