PRINCETON, N.J. (10/18/08) – Senior Michael Maag led the Princeton University men’s cross country team to victory on Saturday, Oct. 18 at the Princeton Invitational. Maag won the individual title, completing the 8K course in 24:07.80 six seconds ahead of the next runner across the line.

A total of 195 athletes from 13 universities ran the course this morning. The Tigers posted a low score of 62 to win the event, followed by St. Joseph’s in second place with a 78 and Duquesne in third place with a 79.

Freshman Brian Leung was the second Tiger across the line, coming in at 24:23.70 for sixth place. Senior Cameron Marantz finished 11th with a time of 24:35.60m and sophomore Rob Speare wasn’t far behind clocking in at 24:41.00 for 14th place. Rounding out the scorers for Princeton was freshman Sean Wilson, who posted a time of 25:01.10 for 31st place.

Maag, Marantz and Speare all recorded personal course records, while Marantz’s time was the best he’s run in any 8k race.

Outside of the top five, 10 harriers finished under 26 minutes and one was slightly over the 26-minute mark.

Princeton will look for its third Ivy League title in as many years, at the Ivy League Heptagonals on Friday, Oct. 31.
