Courtesy: Princeton Athletic CommunicationsPrinceton sophomore high jumper Justin Frick cleared 2.10 meters (6 feet, 10 3/4 inches) Wednesday in the preliminaries to advance to the finals of the high jump competition at the NCAA Division I Outdoor Track & Field Championships at Drake Stadium.
Frick is one of 15 competitors to advance to Friday's final, which begins at 8 p.m. ET.
The Freehold, N.J., native cleared 2.05 meters (6-8 3/4) on his first attempt and then made 2.10 meters on his second try. He missed on all three attempts at 2.14 (7 feet, 1/4 inch), but made Friday's final based on misses. Two other competitors had missed at the initial height of 2.05 before clearing the height.
In the women's 5,000 meters, Princeton freshman Ashley Higginson finished seventh in her heat in a time of 17:37.46. Only the top six in each heat automatically qualified for Friday night's final, as did the next four fastest times after that.
Princeton junior Jolee VanLeuven runs Thursday night in the 10,000-meter finals. That race begins at 9:10 p.m. ET.
