This Week’s Storylines

Tourney Time
The Princeton men’s hockey team is making its second appearance in the NCAA Hockey Tournament this weekend when it heads to the Madison Regional to take on North Dakota. Wisconsin and Denver will meet in the other game at the Regional, with the two winners playing for a Frozen Four berth.

The Road to Madison
Princeton advanced to the NCAA Tournament by winning the ECAC Hockey Championship last Saturday night with a 4-1 win over Harvard. Princeton, the tournament’s second seed, defeated Colgate 3-0 in the semifinals and had a two games to one series win over Yale in the quarterfinals. Princeton shut out Yale 3-0 in the first game and 4-0 in the third game, with Yale winning the middle game 4-3.

ECAC Title
Princeton’s ECAC Hockey Championship was its second in program history and its first since 1998. That season Princeton won the tournament as the seventh seed and defeated Clarkson in the title game in double overtime. Princeton is now 2-1 in ECAC title games, winning in 1998 and 2008 and losing in 1995.

In the NCAAs
Princeton has made one NCAA Tournament appearance, which came in 1998. That season Princeton was matched up with Michigan in Ann Arbor, and Michigan, the eventual National Champions that season, defeated Princeton by a 2-1 score.

ECAC Final Four
Princeton made its fifth appearance in the ECAC Hockey semifinals last weekend and its first since the 1998-99 season. Princeton also advanced to the semis in 1994-95, 1996-97 and 1997-98. Princeton is 3-2 in semifinal games, 2-1 in the championship game, and 1-1 in consolation games.

Ivy Title
Princeton’s win at Dartmouth on Feb. 16 clinched the Tigers their first Ivy League title since the 1999 season when Princeton shared the title with Yale. The Tigers finished the season 9-1 in Ivy games, setting a new team record for Ivy wins in a season.
