Princeton senior Lauren Lazo has been included as one of 30 student-athletes from across the nation to make the first cut of nominees for the Senior CLASS Award.

The complete list of first-round finalists can be found here. A media panel will pare the list of names to 10 next month, and fans, coaches and media will be able to vote for a winner from that group of 10. The organization had 69 nominees submitted for consideration.

The Senior CLASS Award, whose acronym stands for Celebrating Loyalty and Acheivement for Staying in School, is open to seniors who couple involvement in the community, the classroom and character-building initiatives with success on the field.

Lazo, a forward who will be moving to the back line this season, is a three-time All-Ivy League honoree who earned all-region honors while helping Princeton to an Ivy League title and first-round NCAA tournament win in 2012. Off the field, Lazo, a psychology major and member of Princeton's Varsity Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, is a team captain this season and has devoted her time to several volunteer projects. She has worked with Best Buddies on campus, which facilitates the creation of friendships between Princeton students and those within the community that have autism. During a freshman seminar class, she had the opportunity to spend one-on-one time with a local teen from her professor's private practice. Through the Princeton Varsity Club, Lazo has helped to reconstruct a YMCA, participated in reading programs with area children, helped families affected by Hurricane Sandy, and annually aided in setting up the Community of Lights, which is a fundraiser to help abused women.

While preseason practice continues this week, Lazo and her Tiger teammates will open the 2014 campaign Friday at 7 p.m. at Roberts Stadium against Rutgers.
