Women's Tennis Wraps Marx Tour to Europe
The Princeton women's tennis team has wrapped its quadrennial Marx Tour, visiting Sweden, Denmark and Spain before returning home for the start of the 2014-15 school year and fall season.
The trip was made possible by the generosity of alumnus Louis Marx Jr. '53, who has sponsored an overseas trip for the men's and women's tennis team every four years since 1990.
Day 9: For our last day in Benalmadena, Spain, we wanted to take advantage of the high 80’s temperatures and warm Mediterranean water, so we decided to spend most of the day in the water and try banana boating. A banana boat is a 20-foot long yellow, banana-shaped inflatable water boat with 12 seats that is pulled by a motor-driven boat. The banana boating ended up being one of the highlights of our trip, with major team bonding happening as we struggled to help each other back on the boat every time we were thrown off into the deep waters. We spent the rest of the day playing paddle tennis on the beach and swimming. We ended the day by surprising Coaches Granville and Lambropoulos with a session with a caricature artist to get their portraits drawn so we could thank them for spending so much time and effort organizing such an amazing trip for us.
Day 10: Our last day of the tour was spent travelling back to Princeton, starting with a short, though delayed, early-morning flight to Portugal, followed by a connecting flight to Newark. Most of our team returned to campus to get ready for our preseason, which starts on September 7. Additionally, some of us will be traveling to NYC to attend the Friends of Princeton Tennis gathering hosted by President Greg Finck ’91 on August 28, and we look forward to having the opportunity to meet tennis alumni.
Thus ended our incredible 10-day trip to Europe, thanks to the generosity of Louis Marx Jr. ’53 and his family. We are so grateful and thankful to have been able to visit Sweden, Denmark and Spain this summer and have all the incredible experiences that we did in our time in Europe with the team and our coaches.
