Tyler Fiorito, who won the Ivy League Player of the Year while leading Princeton to the Ivy League championship and NCAA tournament his senior year, has been named the most recent Major League Lacrosse Defensive Player of the Week.

Fiorito, now with the Chesapeake Bayhawks, earned the honor after making 15 saves in a 12-11 win over the New York Lizards Sunday.

A three-time first-team All-Ivy League selection at Princeton before graduating in 2012, Fiorito has taken over the starting role as the goalie for the Bayhawks after an injury to Kip Turner. In his six games as a starter, Fiorito has a .527 save percentage and 11.67 goals-against average.

Fiorito is the third Princeton player to earn a weekly MLL award this season after Ohio Machine teammates Tom Schreiber (Rookie of the Week) and Chad Wiedmaier (Defensive Player of the Week) also won.

Schreiber has 20 points in his rookie season (13 goals, seven assists), and the Machine is in position to earn the league's fourth and final playoff spot in only its second year in existence. One of the teams that Ohio is battling for that fourth spot is the Boston Cannons, who feature Ryan Boyle on attack.

Boyle is the league's all-time leader in assists with 266, including 16 this year, along with nine goals. Boyle also is second all-time in MLL history with 442 career points, seven behind Casey Powell of the Florida Launch and five ahead of John Grant Jr. of the Denver Outlaws.

Rochester, Denver and New York have clinched playoff spots. WIth two regular season games left, Ohio, Boston and Florida are in contention for the last spot. Chesapeake and Charlotte have been eliminated.
