GLASGOW, Scotland (7/28/14) - Julia Ratcliffe added another title to her growing resume today. Commonwealth Games Silver Medalist.

Competing for New Zealand, Ratcliffe threw 69.96 (229-6.25) in the medal round to finish in second place. She entered the finals with the second-best throw of the qualifying rounds with a 67.96 (222-11.50).

Ratcliffe was just 2.01 short of Canada's Sultana Frizell's gold medal throw.

"I'm just over the moon. I was thinking I was going to have to fight for third, so to get silver, it's unreal," Ratcliffe said on stuff.co.nz. "I just felt ready. I sat around all day in my room and Sarah Cowley my roommate was very patient and gave me some space to have a nap. I was just waiting to get out there and do my thing."

Ratcliffe entered the games ranked third, behind Frizell who won gold in 2010 as well, and bronze medalist Sophie Hitchon of England.

Ratcliffe recorded throws of 68.35, 68.68, 69.96, 69.33, 69.47, all within striking distance of her season and personal best of 70.28.

The same report on stuff.co.nz reported: "From the moment the 21-year-old Princeton University student strode into the circle for the first time, she looked calm and composed and her early marker of 68.35m set the tone for a top evening of throwing at Hampden Park."
