PRINCETON, N.J. (6/16/14) - Rising Princeton senior Erin McMunn has been named to the US women’s national team, it was announced by US Lacrosse on Sunday, June 15.

The 38-player roster was selected after a three-day tryout of 81 players who were invited by invitation, that also including rising senior Erin Slifer. The team will train and compete in several exhibition events in preparation for the 2017 Federation of International Lacrosse (FIL) Women’s World Cup in Surrey, England.

“It was pretty unreal to see everyone who was there, and it took a second to find my confidence I think,” McMunn said. “They are all such respected and incredibly talented players - I just felt lucky to be able to play with them. It felt a little surreal stepping on the field with these players, and it definitely was and will be a great learning experience for me.”

Friday and Saturday morning and afternoons were spent doing drill work with scrimmages at night. Sunday the players scrimmaged all day before the announcement was made.

“For the selection, they just brought everyone into a room and read off the numbers that made it. I remember being really surprised and pretty sure I misheard the woman reading the numbers. I'm just really grateful to learn from such great players and such a great coaching staff. I'm incredibly lucky and very excited for such a great opportunity.”

The team will next convene for a training weekend, August 1-3.

A two-time All-America McMunn has been on the Tewaaraton Watch List twice. The 2012 Ivy League Rookie of the Year and 2013 Ivy League Attacker of the Year has led the team in scoring the last two seasons. She scored her 100th career point as a sophomore and tallied her 100th career goal this year. McMunn ranks ninth all-time in scoring at Princeton with 174 points on 102 goals and 72 assists. She is nine assists away from becoming Princeton's all-time assist leader.
