PRINCETON, N.J. – Coming off its fifth-consecutive 20-win season, the Princeton University women’s basketball team will participate in the 2014 Triple Crown Cancun Challenge at the Hard Rock Hotel in Riviera Maya, Mexico.

Eight teams comprise the tournament field, including six squads that made postseason appearances last season. Montana (WNIT First Round) will make its third trip to the Cancun Challenge, while Hartford, Florida State (NCAA Second Round), and Washington (WNIT Quarterfinals) will each make their second. Charlotte (WNIT First Round), Furman (WNIT First Round), Princeton (WNIT Second Round) and Wake Forest round out the field.

"Princeton basketball is thrilled to be included in this year's Cancun Challenge,” said head coach Courtney Banghart. “This amazing and exempt tournament gives us an opportunity for three neutral site games against national opponents, while offering us an additional game on the schedule.”

Each team will play one game per day (three total) from Nov. 27-29. Specific match-ups and game times will be announced in July. Florida State, Furman, Hartford and Washington will compete in the Challenge’s Riviera Tournament, with Charlotte, Montana and Wake Forest joining the Tigers in the Mayan Tournament.

“It brings our Tiger family together in a beautiful location over the Thanksgiving holiday,” added Banghart. “Our Tigers, although dispersed across the world over the summer months, are already hard at work preparing for this remarkable opportunity."

The resort’s convention center ballroom is converted into an arena during the tournament, providing fans an intimate environment to enjoy the games. For more information on the Cancun Challenge, please visit the tournament website (www.cancunchallenge.net).

Last season, Princeton finished with a 21-9 overall record. Despite falling to the University of Pennsylvania on the last day of the regular season, the Tigers earned a fifth-straight (sixth overall) postseason bid, advancing to the second round of the WNIT with a 94-76 victory over Virginia Commonwealth University. Under Banghart’s guidance, Princeton has captured the Ivy League title in four of the last five years, posting a 117-29 (65-5 Ivy) mark during that span.
