Lloyd, McMunn, Slifer and Smith Earn All-Region Honors

PRINCETON, N.J. (5/12/14) - Four members of the Princeton women's lacrosse team have been named all-region it was announced today by the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association.

Senior Colleen Smith and Erin McMunn were named first-team all-region, while senior Sarah Lloyd and junior Erin Slifer were named second-team all-region.

Smith and McMunn are now eligible for inclusion on the IWLCA All-America teams, which will be announced on Monday, May 19.

"Congratulations to our four all-region selections," head coach Chris Sailer said. "This honor reflects the hard work and effort that Colleen, Erin, Sarah and Erin put into the season, and how competitive the 2014 team was on the field. I couldn't be happier for a group of young women who love the game and their teammates, and who give their all for Princeton Lacrosse." 

This is the first all-region honor for Smith. A first-team All-Ivy League defender, Smith played in 16 games before getting injured in the opening seconds of the Ivy League tournament semifinal. Smith finished second on team in caused turnovers with 14 and added 17 draw controls and 13 ground balls. She tallied her first career points this year with a goal against No. 14 Georgetown and a career-best five draw controls. She added three assists during the season while opening it with a career-high four caused turnovers at No. 6 Loyola. Smith was named the Ivy League Defensive Player of the Week on April 20 after her defense against No. 10 Penn and Dartmouth. She anchored the defense that forced Penn into 13 turnovers and just 13 shots. She was also crucial in limiting Penn to just five goals, its fewest goals scored in an Ivy League game since April 15, 2006.

This is the second all-region honor for McMunn. A second-team IWLCA All-America a year ago, she has been a Tewaaraton Watch List nominee twice. McMunn led the team in scoring with 57 points on 44 goals and 13 assists. She also had 19 draw controls, 14 ground balls and five caused turnovers. A first-team All-Ivy League selection, she was the 2013 Ivy League Attacker of the Year and the 2012 Ivy League Rookie of the Year. On Friday, in the first round of the NCAA Tournament, McMunn scored her 100th career goal, as a junior. She currently ranks ninth all-time in scoring with 174 points on 102 goals and 72 assists. Her 72 assists is the second most in program history. Just last week, McMunn set four Ivy League Tournament records, for goals and points. McMunn had a goal in 18 of Princeton's 19 games this year, extending her goal scoring streak to 39 games before it was snapped in the loss to Virginia in the NCAA second round game.

The Ivy League Midfielder of the Year, Lloyd captures her first all-region accolades. She finished fourth on the team in scoring with 28 goals and eight assists for 36 points. Lloyd was the team leader in draw controls with 40 and ground balls with 30, while adding 11 caused turnovers. Lloyd scored her 100th career point on March 29 against Cornell and ranks 22nd all-time in scoring at Princeton with 118 points on 79 goals and 39 assists. She is the all-time Princeton leader in draw controls with 152.

First-team All-Ivy League honoree, Slifer finished second on the team in scoring with 52 points on a team-high 24 assists and 28 goals. She was second on the team in draw controls with 32, while adding 14 ground balls and nine caused turnovers. Slifer scored her 100th career point on May 4 vs. Penn. Slifer earned career bests this season with six draw controls in the season opener at No. 6 Loyola, and seven points at Harvard while matching a career-high four goals and three assists.
