Sophomore Teo D'Alessandro won his first individual Ivy League title and led a 1-2-3 Princeton finish in the 200 IM to help the men's swimming and diving team move into second place after Day 1 of the 2014 Ivy League Championships.

Thanks to big efforts in both the 500 and the 50 free, Harvard holds a lead with 505 points. The meet continues Friday at Harvard's Blodgett Pool, with prelims at 11 am and finals at 6 pm.

Princeton opened the finals session with a third-place finish in the 200 free relay, as the team of Harrison Wagner, Connor Maher, En-wei Hu-Van Wright and Jeremy Wong finished in 1:19.52.

Freshman Sam Smiddy made his Ivy League Championships debut in the 500 free, where he placed sixth in 4:25.45. He was the lone Tiger in the 'A' final, though sophomore teammate Zach Ridout won the 'C' final in 4:26.96.

D'Alessandro won his first individual Ivy League championship in a pool record time of 1:45.45, while classmate Marco Bove took second in 1:46.53. Byron Sanborn, an NCAA qualifier in the breast last year, finished third in 1:46.61. A fourth sophomore, Hu-Van Wright, finished seventh overall in 1:47.59.

The Crimson was able to extend its advantage in the 50 free, taking four of the top six spots, but junior Harrison Wagner did pick up a fifth-place finish in 20.00. Sophomore Jeremy Wong finished eighth in 20.55.

Princeton placed two in the 1-meter 'A' final, and junior Michael Manhard placed fourth with 318.70 points. Senior Mark O'Connell added a seventh-place finish with 304.95 points.

The Tigers finished the session with a second-place finish in the 400 medley relay, as the quartet of Michael Strand, Sanborn, D'Alessandro and Wong finished in 3:10.82.
