Florida Teams Take Both on Opening Day for Softball

Senior Maddie Cousens was 2-3 with an RBI against Stetson. Also against the Hatters, Danielle Allen went 2-3, and Cara Worden and Sarah McGowan had a hit apiece. Against UCF, three Tigers split the team's hits. Rachel Rendina, Alyssa Schmidt and Tory Roberts each had a hit.

Against UCF, the Knights used three hits in the third inning to take a 2-0 lead, an advantage that proved to be enough to take the opener. Against Stetson, a walk, three singles and a sacrifice fly in the second inning put Stetson ahead 4-0. Though the Tigers got within 7-4 in the fourth, Princeton was unable to close the gap.

• UCF is now 2-0 all-time against Princeton. The teams previously met in 2002.

• Two freshmen, Marissa Reynolds and Haley Hineman, started the season opener. Just one freshman last season, Danielle Allen, started the 2013 opener. The last time Princeton started more than one freshman in the opener was 2012, when four rookies started.

• Claire Klausner pitched two innings in relief against UCF, making her the first Princeton freshman since Michelle Tolfa '11 in 2008 to appear in the circle in a season opener. Fellow rookie Erica Nori made her first appearance in the circle in the second game of the day against Stetson.

• Sarah McGowan had a pair of RBI on a two-run double in the fourth against Stetson. The RBI were her first since notching one against Coppin State on March 17, 2013, and her first multi-RBI game since getting three against St. Bonaventure on March 1, 2013.

• Stetson has now won three of the four all-time meetings against Princeton. The previous three occurred in 2007.

• Meredith Brown's pitching decision was her first since March 23, 2013 against Colgate.
