Women's Hockey Welcomes Penn State to Hobey Baker for First Time

PRINCETON, N.J. (1/26/14) - Princeton returns from its two-week exam period hosting Penn State on Tuesday, Jan. 28 at Hobey Baker Rink at 7 p.m.

EYE ON THE TIGERS
The Tigers are 9-8-3 overall, and split on the road their last time out at Union and RPI. The senior class accounts for 48% of the teams’ point production. Denna Laing leads the seniors with eight goals and seven assists for 15 points. Classmate Sally Butler has a team-high 10 assists and two goals for 12 points, while senior Rose Alleva leads all defenders in scoring with five goals and six assists. Senior Olivia Mucha, freshman Cassidy Tucker and sophomore Jaimie McDonell have 10 points apiece. Sophomore netminder Kimberly Newell has a .901 save percentage and a 2.97 goals against average.

PRINCETON/PENN STATE SERIES
This is just the second meeting between Princeton and Penn State. The teams first met on Jan. 29, 2013 during the Nittany Lions first season as a varsity program. Princeton won that first meeting 3-0 in University Park.

SCOUTING THE NITTANY LIONS
Penn State is coming off a two-game setback at College Hockey America opponent Syracuse. The team lost 3-2 in overtime on Friday and 3-0 the following day, ending a streak of three straight overtime games. The Nittany Lions are 4-19-2 overall with wins over Vermont, Lindenwood and ECAC opponents Colgate and Union.

Sophomores Shannon Yoxheimer and Hannah Hoenshell lead the team in scoring with 13 and 12 points, respectively. Both have eight assists with Yoxheimer scoring five goals and Hoenshell four. Senior Taylor Gross and freshman Laura Bowman have scored the most goals on the team with seven tallies apiece and have 11 and 10 points, respectively. Penn State has split netminding duties between senior Nicole Paniccia and sophomore Celine Whitlinger. Paniccia has a .914 save percentage and a 3.35 GAA, while Whitlinger owns a .912 save percentage and a 3.73 GAA.
