Cara Mattaliano Earns Tigers' Second Straight Ivy Rookie Of The Week Honor
One week after classmate Lauren Miller earned her first Ivy League Rookie of the Week honor, freshman outside hitter Cara Mattaliano was named Rookie of the Week after helping Princeton earn a crucial road split in New York.
Mattaliano (Glen Ellyn, Ill.) had 27 kills in two matches over the weekend, hitting .239. She had a team-best 17 kills in a four-set win at Columbia on Saturday, which also matched her season-high. Along with her 10 kills in a loss at Cornell on Friday night, Mattaliano now has seven matches with double-digit kills this season.
She averaged 3.86 kills per set and hit .239 along the way. She added 10 digs and a trio of aces to help account for her 31 points.
"Cara is a firey player, and she is becoming a great offensive weapon," head coach Sabrina King. "She is coming into her own, and I'm looking forward to see how she develops."
Mattaliano now leads all Ivy League freshmen in both kills (3.08) and points (3.47). Princeton, which is in a three-way tie for second place, will take on both Brown and reigning Ivy League champion Yale on the road this weekend.
