Steve Mills '81 has spent decades in the world of professional basketball, and the Princeton alumnus is about to dip back in.

Mills was named general manager of the New York Knicks, the organization announced Thursday. The move brings him back to the organization for which he worked from 2000-09, including his time with Madison Square Garden as the President and COO of MSG Sports.

Prior to joining the Knicks and MSG, Mills worked at the NBA offices from 1984-2000, finishing his time there as the Senior Vice President for Player and Basketball Development. Since leaving the Knicks in 2009, Mills has worked in private business, specializing in wealth management of athletes and entertainers. He has also had a stint with Magic Johnson Enterprises and served as a contributor to a Princeton course taught by men's basketball Academic-Athletic Fellow Hal Feiveson during the 2009-10 school year.

Mills was a second-team All-Ivy League pick in 1981. His last two teams won Ivy League titles, coming up one point short to Penn in a playoff in 1980 and winning the title outright at 13-1 in 1981 before taking on No. 18 BYU in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.
