Princeton incoming freshman Thomas Colautti pushed his first set to a tiebreaker Tuesday in the first round of the 64-player U.S. Open juniors singles draw, but his opponent, Peruvian Jorge Panta, ultimately prevailed in straight sets.

To qualify for the main draw, Colautti knocked off two seeded opponents in three-set matches last Friday and Saturday, rallying after dropping the first set both times. Friday, Colautti defeated 16-year-old American Henrik Wiersholm, the No. 15 seed in the qualifying draw, 4-6, 6-2, 7-5. Saturday, he beat eighth-seeded Brazilian Joao Menezes 4-6, 7-6(2), 6-3.

In the main draw, Panta, the No. 15 seed in the bracket, won 7-6(6), 6-0. Colautti was one of four British players in the draw, which had competitors from 21 countries.

Colautti and the Tigers will make their fall debut next weekend, Sept. 13-15, at the annual Princeton/Farnsworth Invitational at the Lenz Tennis Center.
