Women's Track & Field Qualifies Nine for the NCAA East Regional

PRINCETON, N.J. (5/16/13) - Nine members of the Princeton women's track & field team will participate in the 2013 NCAA East Regional it was announced by the NCAA on Thursday, May 16. The East Regional will be held in Greensboro, N.C., on the campus of the North Carolina A&T on May 23-25.

Freshman Julia Ratcliffe owns the best mark in the East in the hammer throw. Her throw of 68.80 from the Larry Ellis Invitational marks her best of the season, although she has thrown over 63 each time out this year. She will try to qualify for the final on Friday at 10 a.m. The top 12 move on the championship.

Seniors Greta Feldman and Alexis Mikaelian make a return in the 1500. Feldman captured All-America honors in this event last year, finishing fifth at the NCAAs and qualified for the US Olympic Trials. Her time of 4:21.43 from the Larry Ellis Invitational qualified her for the regional. Mikaelian clocked a 4:19.71 at the ECACs to qualify. This is her third time qualifying for the regional in the 1500. The first round will be Thursday at 5:30 p.m. The top five from each of four heats plus the next four fastest times advance to the quarterfinals on Saturday.

Sophomore Cecilia Barowski will compete in the NCAAs for the first time in her career. She qualified with a PR of 2:06.26 from the ECAC. The first round will be held on Thursday, May 23 at 8:10 p.m. The top three from each heat plus the next nine fastest times advance to the quarterfinals on Friday. Joining Barowski in the 800 is junior Kacie O'Neil. This is the second consecutive season O'Neil has qualified in this event. She ran a PR of 2:08.22 at the ECACs last weekend.

Senior Mel Newbery qualifies for the steeplechase for the second time in her career. She ran a PR of 10:18.66 in the event at the Sam Howell Invitational. The quarterfinal will be held on Friday at 8:50 p.m., with the top 12 advancing to Eugene, Ore.

For the second straight year, senior Abby Levene will take on the 10,000. She clocked a 34:21.08 at the Sam Howell Invitational. The semifinal is slated for 9 p.m., on Thursday with the top five from each of two heats plus the next two fastest times advance to the final in Eugene.

Eight-time Ivy League pole vault champion junior Tory Worthen will compete for the four consecutive year. She cleared 3.91 meters at the ECAC to qualify. The preliminary round is at 5 p.m., on Friday with the top 12 advancing to the championship.

Junior Imani Oliver is making a return to the regional in the triple jump, after qualifying as a freshman. She reached a school record of 12.87 at Heps to qualify. The preliminary round is Saturday at 5:30 p.m., with the top 12 advancing to the championship.
