PRINCETON, N.J. (5/8/13) - The Princeton women's lacrosse team is making its 21st appearance in the NCAA Tournament and will face Duke in the first round on Friday, May 10 in Annapolis, Md. The winner advances to the second round to face the winner of the Navy/Monmouth game on Sunday at noon.

Princeton is making its 21st appearance in the NCAA Tournament after receiving an at-large bid with a 10-6 overall record. The Tigers are currently ranked No. 17 in the IWLCA poll. Like Duke, Princeton exited its league tournament too early. The Ivy League Attacker of the Year, sophomore Erin McMunn leads the team in scoring with 66 points on 38 goals and 28 assists. Sophomore midfielder Erin Slifer has 35 points on 17 goals and 18 assists and junior midfielder Sarah Lloyd adds 18 goals and 14 assists for 32 points. Lloyd is the team leader in draw controls and ground balls with 48 draws and 26 ground balls. Alexandra Bruno leads the freshman in scoring and has the second most goals on the team with 25 with assisting on four goals. Senior Jaci Gassaway has 23 tallied and 27 points overall. Junior Mary-Kate Sivilli, senior Charlotte Davis, senior Sam Ellis and freshman Anya Gersoff are all in double digits in scoring as well. Defenders Caroline Rehfuss and Liz Bannantine are the team leaders in caused turnovers with 18 and 16, respectively. Junior Caroline Franke has started in the last 12 games in goal and has a 9-5 record. She owns a 10.05 goals against average and a .461 save percentage.

The series between Duke and Princeton is tied at 8-8, with the Blue Devils winning the last four meetings. Princeton’s last win was a 13-8 game in 2008. This is the second time the teams meet in the NCAA Tournament. The Tigers won that first game 9-8 in three overtimes in the quarterfinals in 2000 when Princeton was the national runner-up.

Duke enters the NCAA Tournament with a 12-5 overall record. The Blue Devils have been ranked in the top-eight in the IWLCA poll all season. This is Duke’s 13th consecutive appearance in the NCAAs after having first made the tournament in 1998. The Blue Devils are 11-3 in the NCAA First Round and have the last eight straight first-round games. Duke averages 12.88 goals per game and is holding teams to just 8.88 gpg. Duke was upset in its first game of the ACC Tournament, losing to Virginia 10-7. Tewaaraton nominee sophomore Kerrin Maurer leads the team in scoring with 59 point son 32 goals and 27 assists. Only senior Makenzie Hommel has more goals, with 44 while adding 10 assists. Freshman Kelci Smesko has 42 points on 26 goals and 16 assists. Five other players are in double digits in scoring.The defense is led by Tewaaraton nominee junior Taylor Virden. Virden has collected a team-high 30 ground balls, a team-best 48 draw controls and is second on the team in caused turnovers with 17. Sophomore Gabby Moise is the team leader in that category with 24 to her credit. Freshman goalkeeper Kelsey Duryea has an ACC-leading 8.69 GAA and a .502 save percentage. She is also the league leader in ground balls. Duryea, Maurer, Hommel, Trimble and Virden were all named to the All-ACC Team this season.
