For the second straight day, Princeton staged a late rally to pull out a win, this time against Colgate in Friday's opener at Delaware State in an 8-5 victory.

No such rally was needed in the second game, which went to Princeton over Lafayette by forfeit due to injuries for the Leopards. Consequently, Princeton will face Colgate instead of Lafayette at 9 a.m. tomorrow to close its play in the event.

Against Colgate in the first game, Princeton trailed 2-0 in the third and 4-2 midway through the fifth, scoring six times between its half of the fifth and the sixth innings to overcome the deficit.

With the wins Princeton improved to 13-8, while Colgate fell to 1-14 on the season. Lafayette, with the forfeit loss, fell to 3-10.

Three doubles from Danielle Allen, Alex Peyton and Nikki Chu gave Princeton its first two runs in the fourth inning before Colgate answered to retake the two-run lead. Princeton then cracked three singles and capitalized on two errors in the fifth to pick up three runs, the only RBI in the inning coming on a Rachel Rendina hit.

That had Princeton up 5-4 heading into the sixth. The hits kept coming for the Tigers, who got a Kayla Bose double and three singles in the inning to make it 8-4. Rendina had an RBI-single and Candy Button an RBI-double in the frame.

Colgate staged one last rally in the seventh, getting a run on two hits to start the frame, but that was it.

The rally came a day after Princeton scored seven times between the fifth and sixth innings to overcome an early 3-0 deficit at George Washington.

Liza Kuhn (4-2) gave up seven hits and walked two, striking out six and earning three of the five runs. Brigit Ieuter (0-5) took the loss for Colgate in two innings of relier.

Kayla Bose led Princeton at the plate in the first game, going 3 for 3 while Maddie Cousens and Rendina had two hits apiece.

Princeton will play only one game Saturday, at 10:30 a.m., now against Colgate. In a schedule change, the Tigers will not play Delaware State at 2 p.m. and will have only one game tomorrow.
