Box Score

A three-run fifth inning was not enough to lift the Princeton baseball team past Maryland for good, as the Terrapins handed the Tigers a 9-4 loss Sunday to sweep the season series.

Down 3-0 in the fourth, Jonathan York hit a one-out single to center field with runners on first and second. A Maryland error gave all three runners an extra base and Peter Owens crossed the plate for the Tigers' first run of the afternoon.

After trailing all weekend, Princeton again managed to capitalize on a Terrapin error this time to take the lead. With two outs and runners on first and second, Owens hit an infield single to load the bases and Nate Baird followed with two-RBI single to right field. A failed pickoff by Maryland's catcher Jack Clearly brought Owens home to give the Tigers their first advantage, 4-3.

Owens went 3-for-4 and had a pair of runs, establishing a new career-high in hits. Baird added a pair of RBI, two walks and a hit.

The Tigers' committed two of their five errors in the bottom of the fifth and Maryland responded with six runs on four hits to retake the lead for good, 9-4.

Princeton (0-4) travels next to Deland, Fla. for four-game weekend series at Stetson from Mar. 8-10.
