Two Wins and Women's Hockey is in as Princeton Plays for Playoff Spot

PRINCETON, N.J. (2/19/13) - Princeton controls its own destiny as it's "win or go home" this weekend as the women's hockey team takes on Brown and Yale. If the Tigers win both games they will clinch the eighth and final spot in the ECAC playoffs.

Princeton is in eighth place currently with a 5-13-2 record (12 points) and is 10-15-2 overall. The Tigers had a big win last weekend, knocking off No. 7 Clarkson 4-1. St. Lawrence edged Princeton the next night rallying from a 2-0 deficit. Senior Corey Stearns leads the Tigers in scoring with 31 points on 26 assists and five goals. Classmate Kelly Cooke has scored a team-high 15 goals and adds 11 assists for 26 pints. Junior Sally Butler, sophomore Brianna Leahy and freshman Molly Contini have scored eight goals apiece. Butler and Leahy are third and fourth on the team in points with 15 and 13, respectively. Junior Olivia Mucha and senior Alex Kinney have 11 points each. Freshman Kimberly Newell is 9-13-2 in goal with a .915 save percentage and a 2.97 goals against average.

Princeton leads the all-time series with Brown 36-29-2 since it began in 1980. The Tigers have won the last five games including a 6-1 game this season. Brown's last win in the series was a 4-3 game in Feb. 2010. In this season's first meeting, the Tigers' top line of Cooke, Stearns and Contini combined for 10 points with Contini collecting her first career hat trick and Cooke having a career four-point game.

Brown is still alive in the race for the postseason as well. The Bears are 10th in the league with 5-15 record (10 points). Brown is 6-18-1 and swept last weekend with wins over Union and Rensselaer. The Bears fell to Harvard 5-2 earlier this week in a make-up game from Nemo. Senior Alena Polenska is the Bears' leading scorer. She has 18 points on eight goals and 10 assists. Junior Jessica Hoyle has 12 points on five goals and seven helpers. Senior Laurie Jolin and sophomore Lauren Vella have 11 points apiece. Junior Aubree Moore and senior Katie Jamieson have both seen time in goal. Moore is 4-11-1 with a .921 save percentage and a 2.28 GAA. Jamieson is 2-7 wtih a .901 save percentage and a 3.36 GAA.

The Tigers lead 55-11-2 in the all-time series with Brown that began in 1979. Yale has won just seven times in 35 tries at Hobey Baker Rink. Princeton is on a four-game win streak in the series, which includes a 3-1 game earlier this month. Juniors Denna Laing and Sally Butler each had a goal and an assist in the game, as th Tigers scored all three goals in the final period.

With a 3-13-3 league record (19 points), Yale is contention for the eighth spot in the league standings as well. Yale is 4-19-3 overall and is seeking its first win since Jan. 26, a 2-0 game vs. Colgate. Two defenders lead the team in scoring. Freshman Kate Martini has scored six goals and nine assists for 15 points. Junior Tara Tomimoto has 13 points on 12 assists and one goal. Rookies Jamie Haddad and Janelle Ferrara have 12 points each. Sophomore Jaimie Leonoff has started and played in goal in all but one game. She has a 4-18-3 record with a 2.81 GAA and a .924 save percentage.
