Princeton rookie foilist Michael Dudey was named National Freshman of the Week by CollegeFencing360.com Wednesday for his 24-3 performance over the weekend at the Northwestern Duals.
Dudey helped the men's fencing team, now ranked No. 3 in the nation by CollegeFencing360, to a 10-1 weekend, including a victory over then-No. 1 Ohio State. The win helped Princeton move up a spot in the site's national rankings.
Dudey went 3-0 in bouts against Ohio State, and all three of his defeats were against ranked teams' fencers, including two to then-No. 3 Notre Dame and one to then-No. 10 Stanford.
Dudey and the Tigers will look to follow up the program's 2012 Ivy League title this weekend when the Tigers head to Harvard for the round-robin competition.
