Junior Pat Schwagler figured to add some offensive firepower to the Princeton men's volleyball lineup, but few could have guessed he would do so as quickly as he did. Schwagler's 19-kill performance in the season opener led the Tigers to a win over No. 13 UC Santa Barbara and earned him EIVA Offensive Player of the Week honors.

Schwagler recorded 19 kills, seven digs and four blocks, and he hit .500 for the match, to lead Princeton to a 29-27, 25-20, 22-25, 25-23 victory over the Gauchos. It was Princeton's first win over a ranked opponent since 2009, and its first in a season opener since 2001.

“Pat did a great job for us this past week in California," said head coach Sam Shweisky. "Nineteen kills on 30 swings and a .500 hitting percentage to lead us to a win over ranked MPSF opponent is a great accomplishment. We are excited to see what Pat can do as we enter our EIVA season.”

Schwagler followed that effort up with 14 kills and two blocks in a tight 3-1 loss to No. 13 UC San Diego.

This is Princeton's second straight regular season week where it earned a weekly EIVA honor, though they would come about 10 months apart. In the 2012 regular season finale, current sophomores Will Siroky and Tony Ensbury won the EIVA Offensive and Defensive Player of the Week honors.

Princeton will open the EIVA season Friday night at George Mason.
