Princeton freshman Michael Dudey won gold during the four-day North American Cup fencing event that wrapped Monday, Jan. 21 in Louisville, Ky.

Fencers who finish highly in NAC events accrue points toward representing their countries in international competition. The national-event schedule will continue with the Junior Olympics in Baltimore Feb. 15-18, followed by the next NAC event in Reno, Nev., in mid-March.

Dudey finished atop a field of 212 junior foil fencers, successfully defending his No. 1 seed entering the competition. He went 5-1 in pool bouts, earning the No. 23 seed in the direct elimination bracket. Beginning play in that bracket in the Round of 128, Dudey allowed more than five touches in only one of the seven 15-touch bouts he won, knocking off Penn sophomore Jason Chang 15-4 in the final.

Classmate Gracie Stone finished ninth of 113 fencers in the junior women's saber event. Stone went 6-0 in pool bouts, earning the No. 1 seed after entering the competition as the No. 6 seed. She won her first two matches before Skyla Powers defeated her 15-10 in the Round of 16.

Complete results can be found here. Dudey, Stone and the rest of the Princeton fencing teams will resume their seasons Feb. 2 at the Northwestern Duals in Illinois.
