PRINCETON (1/19/12) - Four former Princeton hockey players are on NHL opening day rosters as the 2013 NHL season finally kicks off today, Jan. 19. Three Tigers are with new organizations this year.
Darroll Powe '07 begins his second season with the Minnesota Wild. Last year he had 13 points on six goals and seven assists in 82 games. Powe spent his first three seasons with Philadelphia. He has played in 286 NHL games and has 28 goals and 28 assists. The Wild host Colorado on opening day.
George Parros '03 begins his eighth season in the NHL with the Florida Panthers. The Panthers acquired Parros in July from the Anaheim Ducks. Last year he played in 46 games, scoring one goal and three assists and picking up 85 penalty mimnutes. Parros won the Stanley Cup with the Ducks in 2007, during this first year with the organization. In 413 NHL games, Parros has 33 points on 17 goals and 16 assists, and 950 penalty minutes.
Jeff Halpern '99 will spend his 14th year in the NHL with the New York Rangers. Halpern spent last season with the Washington Capitals. He played in 69 games, scoring four times and assisted on 12 goals. He also was the team's top face-off man, winning 58.3% of his draws. Halpern has also played for Dallas, Tampay Bay, Los Angeles and Montreal. In his NHL career, Halpern has 146 goals, 212 assists in 861 games. The Rangers play the Boston Bruins on opening day.
