Men's Track Looks to Retain Title at NY Armory Meet

PRINCETON, N.J. (1/9/13) - The Princeton men's track & field team will compete at the New York Road Runners College Night at the Armory on Saturday, Jan. 12. The meet begins at 6:30 p.m. A schedule of events, subject to change, can be found below.

Teams attending include: Albany, Holy Family, Lafayette, Lincoln, Lock Haven, Long ISland, Manhattan, Penn, Ramapo, St. Francis (Pa.), St. Peter's, TCNJ, UConn, University of District of Columbia and Virginia State.

The Tigers won the meet last year, beating out 14 other squads. The Tigers scored 134 points while Rutgers finished second with 115 and Hampton had 97.

Tom Hopkins '14 won the 60-meter hurdles and was second in the 400, to give his team 18 points. Rob Mohr '15 was the runner-up in the hurdles.

Bradley Paternostro '15 won the 1000 and Connor Martin '15 was third, as the pair presented its team with 16 points. In the next distance race, the 3000, the Tigers went 1-2-3 with Chris Bendtsen '14 posted a winning time of 8:12.88. Alejandro Arroyo Yamin '14 and Jonathan Vitez '14 followed.

Princeton took places 2-9 in the mile, however only the top four times would count towards the team total. Peter Callahan '13 was the runner-up with a time of 4:03.76, just 0.19 seconds out of first place.  Joe Stilin '12 was third at 4:04.37 followed by Trevor Van Ackeren '12 (4:08.03). Michael Williams '14, Michael Palmisano '13, Thomas Dialynas '12, Tyler Udland '14 and Eddie Owens '15 rounded out the group. It was an impressive feat as a total of 35 runners competed in the mile.

Dave Slovenski '12 cleared 5.15 meters in the pole vault to win it, while Adam Bragg '15 took third with a mark of 4.55.

Patrick Park '12 was the runner-up in the shot put throwing to 15.57 meters (51-1) and Scott Rushton '15 was fourth. The high placement gave Princeton 13 points.

Also earning points for the team was Ivan Charbonneau '12 in the 60-meter dash, William Brown '14 in the 3000, and Shane Molidor '14 and Stephen Soerens '15 in the long jump, the 4x4 of Kashif Smith, Daniel McCord, Jordan Sawadogo and Ricky Kearney.
