Men's Hockey Falls 6-5 to Guelph in Exhibition
PRINCETON, N.J. (10/20/12) - Junior defender Alec Rush scored twice for the Princeton men's hockey team, as the Tigers fell 6-5 to Guelph (Ont.) in the final exhibition game on Saturday, Oct. 20 at Hobey Baker Rink.
Guelph took a 2-0 lead with goals within four minutes of each other in the first 10 minutes of the first period.
Rush scored the first of the night on the power play with help from sophomore Tucker Brockett at 11:04.
The Gryphons took a 3-1 lead into the locker room as Justin Gvora added a power-play goal in the final two minutes of the first period.
Gvora helped set up the next goal that came 3:15 into the second frame. Princeton cut the deficit to one, 4-3, with goals from freshman Jonathan Liau and Rush.
Two special teams goals increased the Gryphons lead to 6-3 midway through the third.
The Tigers used an extra attacker for the remainder but couldn't find the equalizer.
On the other end, Cody St. Jacques made 29 saves for the Gryphons.
Princeton was 1 for 8 on the power play and 4 for 6 on the penalty kill.
Shots fell in favor of the Gryphons 42-34.
Princeton opens the regular season next weekend at the Ivy Shootout at Brown. The Tigers face Brown on Friday, Oct. 26 at 7 p.m.
