Hot Wisconsin Invitational On Tap for Women's XC

Week #4 National Poll

PRINCETON, N.J. (10/11/12) - The Princeton women's cross country team competes in its final race before the Ivy League Heptagonal Championship, as it heads to the Wisconsin Invitational on Friday, Oct. 12. The 6k race is set to start at noon.

Taking on the race is junior Marisa Cummings, sophomore Emily de La Bruyere, senior Greta Feldman, senior Abby Levene, senior Alexis Mikaelian, senior Mel Newbery and sophomore Jackie Nicholas.

The rest of the team will stay home and host the Princeton Invitational on Saturday, Oct. 13. For more information on the Invitational click on the link at the top of the article.

A total of 48 teams are competing with 20 teams ranked in the top-30 making it a precursor to the NCAA Championships. The ranked squads competing include: Arizona (2), Washington (3), Iowa State (5), Stanford (7), Cornell (9), Michigan State (10), Vanderbilt (12), Weber State (13), Penn State (14), Toledo (15), Notre Dame (16), New Mexico (19), San Francisco (20), Boston College (21), Columbia (23), NC State (26), Minnesota (27), Providence (28), Wisconsin (29) and Yale (30). Princeton itself is receiving votes in the same poll.

Last year at Wisconsin, Alex Banfich '12 finished in fourth place as Princeton took 25th in a race of 44 teams, 19 ranked, for more than 300 runners. Banfich ran 20:10.1, a pace of 5:25. She kept in the top pack throughout the race posting a 3k time of 10:32. Feldman and Mikaelian both finished at 21:24. Molly Higgins '14 was 10 seconds back to finish in 21:34 and Andrea Keklak '15 crossed the line at 21:54.

Back home, the Tigers finished fifth at their own Invitational. Rachael Skokowski '15 was the first Tiger across the line finishing 19th with a time of 23:36. Abby Hewitt '13 clocked in at 23:37 and Sophie Harkins '15 was three places back with a time of 23:49. Katie Skinner '14 and Melissa Zajdel '14 finished four seconds apart at 24:34 and 24:38, respectively.
