No. 1 Southern California Downs No. 16 Men's Water Polo
An aggressive offensive attack guided the top-ranked Trojans of Southern California to a 22-5 victory over the No. 16 Princeton men's water polo team Friday in Los Angeles.
Both Drew Hoffenberg and Jack Ruth managed to find openings on the Trojan backline, but it would be USC who took a five-goal advantage over the first quarter, 7-2.
Southern Cal then went on to outscore Princeton 11-1 over the second and third quarters, with the Tigers lone goal coming from Hoffenberg.
In the fourth quarter, Ruth and Matt Weber each notched goals.
Freshman Alex Gow had eight saves and two steals, while Tim Wenzlau had three assists. Kurt Buchbinder and Billy Tifft each had two steals apiece.
The Tigers (7-5, 2-1 Southern) next head to Santa Barbara, Calif. to participate in the two day SoCal Tournament at UC Santa Barbara from Sept. 29-30. Princeton opens up the four-game tournament with No. 3 Stanford on Saturday at 1:40 p.m. ET.No. 16 Princeton: 2 - 1 - 0 - 2 - 5
