In another spectacular scoring performance by senior Kathleen Sharkey, the No. 3 Princeton field hockey team shutout Ivy rival Yale, 8-0, Saturday afternoon in New Haven, Conn. The Tigers improve to 7-0 on the year and return home for their biggest test of the year, as No. 2 Syracuse (8-0) heads to Bedford Field tomorrow, Sunday, Sept. 23 for a 2 p.m. game.

Sharkey recorded four goals, scoring at the 12:04, 22:00, 39:02, and 40:01-minute marks. The striker has scored two or more goals in for games this year, with Saturday's game marking her second four-goal performance. She brought her season total to 17 on the day.

Up 2-0 over the first 22 minutes of play behind Sharkey scores, Amanda Bird sliced one in off a Julia Reinprecht dish.

Following halftime, Sharkey opened the half by tallying a hat trick in the 40th minute, but she was not done yet. Sixty-one seconds later, a Teresa Benvenuti backhand found an open Sharkey in the circle to deal Yale a 5-0 deficit.

Freshman Maddie Copeland then recorded Princeton's third goal in as many minutes. The Tiger newcomer put together her first multi-goal game, as she received a pass from classmate Debi-Michelle Jantzen at 63:37 to make it a 7-0 match.

In the 66th Princeton was fouled in the circle and awarded a penalty stroke. Charlotte Krause converted her second penalty stroke of the year to improve the Tigers lead to 8-0.

In goal, Christina Maida and Julia Boyle split the game, combining for Princeton's first shutout of the year. Maida and the Tiger defense did not allow a shot in the first half, while a Boyle-led backline tallied three saves.

Princeton held advantages in shots (33-4), shots on goal (20-3) and penalty corners (8-1) over the Bulldogs.
