No. 13 Men's Water Polo Concludes Princeton Invite with Loss to No. 2 UCLA
The No. 13 Tiger men's water polo team concluded the Princeton Invitational with a 20-3 loss to No. 2 UCLA. The loss drops the Tigers to 3-2 on the year, while the Bruins improve to 8-0.
UCLA opened up the game with a 5-0 run, before senior Jack Ruth capitalized on a power play to get the Tigers on the board with 2:09 remaining in the first quarter.
The Bruins then responded with a five-goal second quarter to hold a 10-1 lead at halftime.
Following the break, the Tigers worked to hold off UCLA, but the second-ranked Bruins continued to put the offensive pressure on. UCLA went on to close out the game with a 10-2 run. Both Sam Butler, who had six steals, and Ruth both second half goals.
Princeton next heads to the Harvard-hosted North-South Invite from Sept. 15-16 in Cambridge, Mass. The Tigers will open the three-game tournament with Iona at 12 noon on Saturday.No. 13 Princeton: 1 - 0 - 1 - 1 - 3
