PRINCETON, N.J. (5/31/12) - Seniors Alex Banfich and Nilan Schnure have been named to the Capital One Academic All-District Track & Field Team it was announced by the College Sports Information Directors of America on Thursday, May 31.
Banfich is a four-time All-America on the Princeton women's cross country and women's track teams. She placed fifth at the 2011 NCAA Cross Country Championship, the highest finish by a Tigers at the NCAAs in program history. A captain of both squads, Banfich has earned two All-America honors in cross country and two in track. During her career she competed in six NCAA Championships and was a first-team All-Ivy League selection four times, while also winning the individual title at the 2010 Ivy League cross country championship. Banfich has helped to guide Princeton to six Ivy League team titles including a triple crown in 2010-11. A native of Plymouth, Ind., Banfich will graduate with a degree in history next week.
Schnure is a four-year letterwinner of the Princeton track & field team. He was the Ivy League runner-up in the indoor distance medley relay and the outdoor 4x400 relay. Last year he was a member of the Ivy League indoor championship DMR. A hurdles specialist, Schnure ran a personal best of 54.13 in the 400m hurdles at the Heps last month. Schnure has helped Princeton to six team titles in his career, including two triple crowns in 2010-11 and 2011-12. A native of Bethesda, Md., Schnure will graduate next week with a degree in molecular biology.
The duo moves on to the national ballot with the Academic All-America being announced in mid-June.
