Princeton field hockey assistant coach Nate Franks '07 has been named to the US Women's Field Hockey staff for the London Summer Olympics. Franks' primary role will be to breakdown the team's games live, as well as scout all opposing teams. It is the role he currently he also holds with the US Men's National Field Hockey program.

The Olympic field hockey tournament will consist of 38 games over seven match days beginning July 29. The US will compete in Pool B with Argentina, Australia, Germany, New Zealand and South Africa. The top two teams from Pools A and B will advance to the medal round.

"Nate is a tremendous addition to our Olympic personnel. His performance analysis prowess will provide a significant piece to our puzzle. The highest compliment that I can pay to Nate is to suggest that our team will be stronger for having him involved. We are really thrilled for him and are very much looking forward to having be a part of the team in the lead up to London and at the Games," said US Women's assistant coach Nick Conway, former US Men's National Team head coach who brought Franks on to his coaching staff in November 2010.

"I'm incredibly proud to be headed to London," said Franks. "This caps off an incredibly special year of hockey for me. Coming back to Princeton and being a part of another Ivy League Championship after four years away, being on staff for the Pan American Games in October and now this. The Olympics is the absolute pinnacle of our sport - I can imagine no greater honor than being on hand to help Team USA make it to the medal podium."

Franks received the call he was named to the coaching staff headed to the Olympics while with current Princeton head coach Kristen Holmes-Winn, who recalled, "US Field Hockey Technical Director Terry Walsh explained that they wanted Nate to be a part of the Olympic staff. It was an unbelievable moment. Nate was shaking and pumping his fist and I think I was probably crying. There is such a tiny sliver of the population that has the chance to be intimately connected to an Olympic experience.  As Terry said, Nate has put himself in this position due to the quality of his work with Team USA over these last 18 months. The entire Princeton community is so proud of his achievement."

In addition to Franks, current Tiger student-athletes Michelle Cesan '14, Katie Reinprecht '13, Julia Reinprecht '14 and Kat Sharkey '13, and alumnae Maren Langford '06 remain in the player pool competing for a place on the US Olympic roster. The official team will be announced June 23 at a sendoff party in Virginia Beach following a Team USA match against Argentina.
