Feldman Wins 1500; Stilin and Van Ackeren Qualify

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (5/26/12) - Junior Greta Feldman put on a spectacular performance to cap the 2012 NCAA East Regional by winning the women's 1500 on Saturday, May 26 at the University of North Florida.

Feldman ran a Princeton record and a personal best 4:15.00 to win the 1500. Her time is the third-best time in Ivy League history. Feldman finished ahead of the four of runners who have top-10 times in the 1500 in the nation including third-ranked Emily Infeld of Georgetown, fourth-ranked Cory McGee of Florida, ninth-ranked Amanda Winslow of Florida State and 10th-ranked Jillian Smith of Michigan. In all Feldman beat12 runners who entered the race ranked higher in the event. She ran the fastest final lap, at 1:01.51 to move up from fifth to take the lead. Feldman will compete in the semifinals on June 7.

Senior Trevor Van Ackeren advanced in the same event on the men's side. Van Ackeren ran 3:48.73 to finish fourth in heat 2 and is one of 12 from the region to advance to the semifinals on June 7.

Senior Joe Stilin ran the second-fastest time in the 5k at 14:01.37 to qualify for the national final. Of the 48 competitors, Stilin was one of just three to run under 14:02. The championship is set for June 8 at 7:10 p.m., CT. Junior Michael Franklin ran 14:22.45 and was just four places out of qualifying. Sophomore Chris Bendtsen clocked in at 14:24.53 and sophomore Tyler Udland ran 14:52.22.

In the field events, senior Dave Slovenski failed to qualify for the finals of the pole vault.
