PRINCETON -- Matija Pecotic has earned a bid in the NCAA singles championship as one of 64 competitors when the tournament gets underway May 23 in Athens, Ga.
Each conference with a player in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association's top 125 got a bid to the NCAA singles tournament, and Pecotic is the only ranked Ivy player. He checked in at No. 114 in the most recent ITA rankings released April 24.
It will be Pecotic's first venture into the NCAA individual field. He has won every Ivy League singles match in each of the last two seasons and was the Ivy League Player of the Year in 2011. The 2012 awards have yet to be announced.
