The 2012 Ivy League Champion Princeton women's basketball team extended its winning streak to 15, as the Tigers handed Yale a 71-53 loss Friday evening in New Haven, Conn. Princeton improved to 22-4 overall, 12-0 Ivy League with the victory, while dropping Yale to 16-11 overall, 8-5 Ivy League.

Early in the first half, the Bulldogs worked to control the game and kept pace with the Tigers. Yale would hold the lead at four different points over the first six minutes of play, before Princeton took control for good.

The Tigers began to decisively distance itself from Yale near the midpoint of the first half, taking its first double figure lead at 3:26, 34-24, off a pair of Niveen Rasheed free throws. The Tigers closed out the first half riding a 7-2 run to go into halftime with a 41-26 lead.

Yale opened up second half action with an 8-7 run, as the Bulldogs worked to close in on Princeton's advantage. However, Rasheed was there again to halt Yale's offensive rally with another perfect performance at the stripe.

Rasheed went on to score 20 points, going 7-for-16 from the field and 6-for-6 from the free throw line. The junior also grabbed down 14 rebounds for her 10th double-double of the year.

The remainder of the second half saw Princeton inching up its double-digit lead, to preserve its undefeated stance in Ivy League play.

For the Tigers, senior Devona Allgood came in and added 13 points in 19 bench minutes, while classmate Lauren Edwards tallied 10 points and six rebounds.

Yale's Megan Vasquez led the Bulldog offense with 15 points, and Michelle Chasen and Hayden Latham had 14 and 11 apiece, respectively.

In the game, Princeton shot 45.8 percent (27-for-59) from the field, while holding Yale to 37.5 percent (21-from-56). The Tigers won the rebounding battle, 48-25, while adding 16 second chance points off their 21 offensive boards.

“It’s always tough to win on the road in this league and we know that. I loved the effort, as you can tell we were on the glass really well. I thought we defended inconsistently, which is a bummer for us in terms (of) the discipline of the scout. It wasn’t as secure as we would have liked, but we made enough plays to pull it out ... We will take any road win in this league,” said head coach Courtney Banghart.

Princeton heads next to Brown for its final regular season road contest of the 2011-12 slate. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. in Providence, R.I.
