No. 18 Women's Water Polo Extends Winning Streak to 13
Led by three goals from freshman CeCe Coffey, the No. 18 Princeton women's water polo team extended its winning streak to 13 behind an 11-7 victory over Villanova to conclude action at the CWPA/MAAC Crossover. This is the third consecutive tournament the Tigers (13-0 overall, 1-0 Southern) have been undefeated in.
Coffey broke Princeton onto the board early, setting up a 2-1 lead for the Tigers in the first quarter. Princeton jumped out decisively in the second, behind a 4-2 run. The Tigers and Wildcats then both added a pair of goals apiece in the third quarter, before Princeton won the goal differential in the fourth quarter with a final 3-2 run.
Defensively, Katlin Poladian managed the cage for the Tigers, tallying eight saves. Princeton had 15 steals in the game, with Katie Rigler leading the way with three. Rigler also added a goal and an assist in two quarters of work.
In addition to her three goals, Coffey also had a pair of steals. Kelly Gross and Rachele Gyorffy had two goals apiece, and Jessie Holechek and Laura Martinez added a goal each to round out the Tigers' scoring efforts.
Princeton's win over Villanova marked the second time this season the Tigers have defeated the Wildcats. In the first meeting on Feb. 12 at the Princeton Invitation, the Tigers earned an 11-2 victory.
The nationally ranked Tigers next head to Cambridge, Mass. to play four-games from Mar. 3-4. Princeton will play Brown, Harvard, Mercyhurst and San Jose State over the weekend slate.
