DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. -- Princeton freshman Kelly Shon turned in a 4-over 76 Saturday to finish play at the NCAA East Regional at the LPGA International's Legends Course in Daytona Beach, Fla.
Shon shot 77 in Thursday's first round and 74 Friday to finish at 11-over for the weekend. Of the 24 teams and 126 total players in the East Regional field, eight teams and the top two individuals not on those eight teams gained bids to the NCAA Championship to take place May 18-21 at Texas A&M.
Alabama's Stephanie Meadow was the top individual finisher at -9, six shots ahead of Cal's Pia Halbig. Meadow and UNC Wilmington's Laverry Kumar each had tournament-low rounds of 67 during the event. Meadow's performance helped lead the Crimson Tide to the regional team title by two shots over North Carolina.
Once the eight team bids were decided, the individual bids went to Jessica Negron of Florida State, who tied for third overall at even par, and Caroline Powers of Michigan State, who tied for sixth at 1-over.
Shon was the fifth Princeton player to qualify individually for an NCAA Regional and first since Susannah Aboff '09 in 2009.
