PRINCETON, N.J. (1/30/10) - The Princeton women's basketball team earned its first Ivy League weekend sweep with a 69-48 win over Yale on Saturday, Jan. 30 at Jadwin Gym. The Tigers knocked off Brown 75-44 in yesterday's game.

Sophomore Devona Allgood posted her fourth double-double of the season with 10 points and 10 rebounds. The leader in the Ivy League in field-goal percentage went 5 for 6 from the floor, while adding two blocks and two steals. Junior Addie Micir led Princeton in scoring for the second straight game with 16 points, while sophomore Lauren Edwards added 15 points and had a team-best three blocks. Freshman Niveen Rasheed chipped in 10 points and pulled down six boards, while picking up three steals and three assists.

Allgood scored six of her 10 points in the first seven minutes to help the Tigers to a 10-4 start. A layup by Micir made it an eight-point game at 12:59. For the remainder of the first half, the teams played back and forth with Princeton taking its largest lead, 26-14 on a Micir three-ball. The Bulldogs answered with a three before Micir sank 2 of 2 from the free-throw line to make it 28-17 with 3:39 to play. Neither team would score in the last 3:39 of the first with Princeton going 0 for 2 and Yale 0 for 4.

Edwards had a layup on a fast break to start the second to make it a 13-point contest, but five minutes later Yale had cut its deficit to just seven on a 10-4 run. The next six minutes had a two steps forward, one step back flow for the Tigers. The team would grab an 11-point lead and then see Yale cut it back to 9, go up 13 and have it cut back to eight.

A three-point basket by Edwards and an injury to starting point guard Lauren Polansky at 7:40 gave the Tigers the spark they needed. Up 50-40 the Tigers held Yale scoreless for over five minutes and rattled off 17 points to make it a 67-40 game with 3:10 to play.

Holding on to a 27-point lead, the Tigers fouled twice and Yale hit four free throws and a jumper at the buzzer to set the score at 69-48.

"When LP [Lauren Polansky] went down we went on a 17-0 run which speaks volumes to this team's chemistry," head coach Banghart said. "When one goes down, they all know they have to step it up and that's exactly what they did."

As a team Princeton shot 49.1 percent from the floor, was 2 for 5 from long range and 15 for 16 from the charity stripe. The Tigers scored 22 of their 69 points off of turnovers and had 11 off of offensive rebounds.

Yale was 35.4 percent from the floor, 25 percent from behind the arc and 90.9 percent from the free throw line. Yoyo Greenfield and Haywood Wright led the Bulldogs offensively with 11 and 10 points, respectively. Melissa Colborne had a team-best eight rebounds, with Michelle Cashen pulling down six. Colborne along with Mady Gobrecht had four assists apiece with Cashen picking up a team-best two steals along the way.

Princeton improves to 15-2 overall and 3-0 in the Ivy League, while Yale falls to 7-11 overall and 2-2 in league play.

The Tigers return to Jadwin Gym next weekend to take on Harvard and Dartmouth during Women's Basketball Alumni Weekend. Princeton hosts Harvard on Friday, Feb. 5 at 7 p.m., and Dartmouth on Saturday, Feb. 6 at 6 p.m.
