Field Hockey Selected as Regional Host for NCAA Tourney; Will Face Stanford

PRINCETON (11/10/09) -- The fourth-ranked Princeton field hockey team learned it would face 14th-ranked Stanford in the opening round of the 2009 NCAA Field Hockey Tournament when the tournament field was announced on Tuesday night. Princeton was selected as the fourth seed for the 16-team tournament and will host a regional at Class of '52 Stadium featuring the Tigers, Stanford, eighth-ranked Syracuse and ninth-ranked Boston College.

Tickets for the weekend's games will be sold at the field beginning approximately one hour before the first game is schedule to begin. Princeton's game with Stanford is tentatively slated to begin at 11:30 a.m., and the day's second game is scheduled for 2 p.m. Sunday's quarterfinal game will be played at 2 p.m.

Princeton is currently 14-2 on the season and has been ranked fourth in the NFHCA Coaches Poll and the RPI for the last several weeks. Princeton was a perfect 7-0 in the Ivy League and ran the Ivy table for the second season in a row to earn the League's automatic bid to the NCAA tournament field. Princeton will meet Stanford in the opening round of the NCAA tournament. The teams last met in the NCAA play-in game a season ago with Princeton topping the Cardinal 8-2 at Class of '52 Stadium.

The Tigers are making their 14th trip to the NCAA tournament and are 15-13 overall. Princeton last played in the NCAA tournament a season ago, defeating Penn State 2-0 in the opening round and falling to Syracuse 3-2 in overtime in the national quarterfinals. Princeton has advanced to the NCAA quarterfinals in two of the last three seasons.

Princeton was 5-1 against tournament teams as it defeated American, Connecticut, Ohio State, Richmond and Syracuse, and fell to national top-seed Maryland.

Saturday, November 14
11:30 a.m. - Stanford at Princeton
2 p.m. - Boston College vs. Syracuse

Tickets are for admittance to both games.
Ticket prices are $10 Adult, $5 Youth (Under 14)/Student with ID
Gates will open at 10:30 a.m. and tickets will be sold until the completion of the second game.
Ticket packages for all games are not being sold.

Sunday, November 15
NCAA Quarterfinal - 2 p.m.

Ticket prices are $10 Adult, $5 Youth (Under 14)/Student with ID
Gates will open at 1 p.m. and tickets will be sold until the completion of the game.
