Women's Lacrosse Begins Three-Game Homestand with Cornell

PRINCETON, N.J. (3/27/14) - The Princeton women's lacrosse team begins a three-game homestand on Saturday, March 29 when it hosts Cornell at 1 p.m., at Sherrerd Field at Class of 1952 Stadium.

EYE ON THE TIGERS
Princeton has won its last four straight games and is 5-3 overall. After a 15-5 win at Columbia on Wednesday night, the Tigers are 1-1 in the Ivy League.

Freshman Anna Doherty and sophomore Alexandra Bruno are both tied for the lead in scoring with 20 points apiece. Doherty has a team-high 17 goals and adds three assists, while Bruno has 15 goals and five helpers. Juniors Erin Slifer and Erin McMunn have 18 points each. Slifer has scored 11 times and has seven assists, while McMunn has a team-high eight assists and 10 goals. Freshman Olivia Hompe and senior Sarah Lloyd have 16 and 15 points respectively, while sophomore Anya Gersoff and senior Mary-Kate Sivilli contribute 14 points apiece. The Tigers have a number of options at the center circle with Slifer winning 16 draws, Lloyd 14, Sivilli 14 and McMunn 12. Lloyd is the team leader in ground balls with 10 while senior defender Liz Cutting adds 10. Lloyd has also caused a team-best eight turnovers, while defenders Colleen Smith and Liz Bannantine chip in with seven each. Junior Annie Woehling has started in goal the last four games and is 4-0 with a .452 save percentage and an 8.97 goals against average. Senior Caroline Franke was the starter at the beginning of the season and has a .355 save percentage and a 12.03 GAA.

THE SERIES
Princeton owns a 31-4 record in the all-time series with Cornell since it began in 1980. The Tigers held a 22-game win streak in the series from 1989-2009. Cornell has taken two of the last five meetings and won a 13-12 overtime game its last time to Princeton in 2012. Princeton won last year 12-10 in Ithaca.

SCOUTING THE BIG RED
Cornell is off to a 4-4 start and it 1-1 in the Ivy League. The Big Red are looking to halt a three-game losing skid after losses to Albany, Rutgers and Stanford. In league play Cornell defeated Columbia and lost to Harvard.

Junior Lindsay Toppe sits atop the scoring column with 25 goals and eight assists for 33 points. Sophomore Emily Tripodi boasts a team-high 20 assists and has scored four times for 24 points. Senior Rachel Moody is one point back with 23 points on 15 goals and eight assists. Senior Amanda D’Amico, junior Sarah Hefner and freshman Catherine Ellis add 16, 14 and 12 points respectively. Hefner has won 41% of the team’s draw controls with 43 total and she is also the leader in ground balls with 12. Sophomore Brittany Marriott has caused the most turnovers with 11 to her credit. Freshman Amie Dickson, junior Claire MacManus and senior Jessie Smith have nine each. Freshman Renee Poullott has started in goal in all but one game and has a .425 save percentage and a 9.13 GAA. Junior Carly Gniewek has seen action in six games and has a .443 save percentage and an 11.47 GAA.
