PRINCETON (9/30/13) - Two former Princeton hockey players and Stanley Cup winners are on NHL opening day rosters as the 2013-14 NHL season finally kicks off on Tuesday, Oct. 1.
George Parros '03 begins his first full season with the Montreal Canadiens. Parros was acquired in a trade with the Florida Panthers in July. Parros has played in 452 regular season games since his NHL debut in 2005-06. He has collected 35 points on 18 goals and 17 assists and 1,007 penalty minutes. Parros previously played for Los Angeles, Colorado, Anaheim, where he won the Stanley Cup in 2007, and most recently Florida. The Canadiens open the season on Tuesday, Oct. 1 hosting the Toronto Maple Leafs.
Kevin Westgarth '07 begins his second season with the Carolina Hurricanes. Westgarth played 31 games with the 'Canes last year scoring twice, adding two assists and picking up 45 penalty minutes. He has played in 127 NHL games, including playoffs, collecting 11 points and 212 penalty minutes. Westgarth previously played for Los Angeles, frim 2008-12, winning the Stanley Cup in 2012. The Hurricanes open the season on Friday, Oct. 4 hosting the Detroit Red Wings.
Four others are signed under NHL contracts: Taylor Fedun '11 (Oilers) will play for the Oklahoma City Barons, Mike Moore '08 (Bruins) will play for the Providence Bruins, Michael Sdao '13 (Senators) is assigned to Binghamton and Mike Condon '13 (Canadiens) has been assigned to the Wheeling Nailers of the ECHL.
