Harmeling '12 Celebrates First Professional Win With Selfless Choice
Princeton alumnus Evan Harmeling '12 won his first tournament as a professional golfer last week, but it is a choice he made not long before he clinched that first win that deserves top billing.
The North Reading, Mass., native won the Massachusetts Open in a three-hole playoff, finishing at -5 atop a field of more than 130 players. He held a share of the lead going into the final round, and it was then that he decided he'd donate any prize money he won to the One Fund Boston, the charity created in the wake of the Boston Marathon bombings two months before.
Harmeling earned $15,000 for winning the tournament, an amount that will go toward the more than $54 million the fund has raised to date, according to its Web site.
