Princeton women’s water polo head coach Luis Nicolao announced the addition of three student-athletes to join the two-time reigning CWPA Eastern champions for the upcoming 2014 season, it was announced Tuesday. Joining the Tigers as the Class of 2017 are: Morgan Hallock, Hannah Lapkin and Sydney Saxe.

“We are very excited about our incoming freshmen class,” said Nicolao. “We are going to need to fill some holes at 2-meter and in center. This class helps us fill those voids and while it is not a huge class in terms of numbers all three will come in and have a major impact as freshmen.”

Morgan Hallock • Center/Center Defender • 6-1
Westlake Village, Calif./Harvard Westlake

A four-year letterwinner and starter at Harvard-Westlake, Morgan Hallock is coming off a record breaking prep career. The center scored a program and regional record 512 goals over her career and broke the Wolverines’ single-season goals record with 157 in 2012. Hallock is a four-time All-CIF, All-Mission League and Daily News All-Area selection. She is the 2012 CIF Division IV Player of the Year, the two-time Mission League MVP and was the 2010 Daily News Newcomer of the Year. A three-time California-Hawaii All-America, Hallock guided HWS to the 2011 and 2012 CIF Division IV championships.

Hallock played for the Los Angeles Water Polo Club from 2009-12 and has been an active member of the U.S. youth national system. She was the 2011 captain of the Cadet National Team, winning silver at the Youth Pan American Championships in Puerto Rico. In 2012 with the Junior National Team, the squad won gold at the Junior Pan American Championships in Montreal.

Hallock is fluent in Mandarin Chinese and plans on majoring in economics at Princeton with the hopes of attending law school following graduation.

Hannah Lapkin • 2-Meter • 5-7
Orange, Calif./Foothill

All-Southern California Team selection Hannah Lapkin anchored Foothill’s advancement to the CIF playoffs from 2011-13. The Knights were division finalists in 2011 and semifinalists in 2012 and 2013. As a senior, Lapkin was named to the All-CIF Second Team, Century League First Team, an OC All-Star and to the state championship all-tournament team.

Lapkin played for SoCal Water Polo Club for nine years. As a senior she was a member of the U.S. Water Polo Olympic Development Team and was in the top-25 as a junior. She will be representing the U.S. at the Maccabian Games this summer in Israel.

Lapkin is undecided on a potential major at Princeton.

Sydney Saxe • Center • 5-9
Laguna Beach, Calif./Laguna Beach

Sydney Saxe heads to Princeton after helping guide Laguna Beach to four consecutive OC League championships. The four-year letterwinner and two-year starter was part of the Breakers earning top-five CIF finishes throughout her career. In 2012, Saxe was named All-CIF and picked up her second consecutive Orange Coast All-League First Team honor. As a junior, she was named all-league, a top-15 junior by OC Varsity and voted her team’s Most Improved. In 2009, she was LBHS’s John Wooden Award recipient.

Saxe played for four years with SET Water Polo Club. The squad placed in the top-five at the Junior Olympics from 2010-12, while earning second and fourth-place finishes at the U.S. Club Championship in 2010 and 2011, respectively. In 2013, they were the KAP7 U18 champions and Cal Cup Championship runner-up.

Saxe plans on majoring in mathematics or operations research and financial engineering at Princeton with the hopes of pursing a career in business finance.
