Sophomore shortstop Alyssa Schmidt and freshman pitcher Shanna Christian have helped the Princeton softball team sweep the Ivy League's weekly honors.

Schmidt earned Ivy League Player of the Week honors, while Christian won Ivy League Pitcher and Rookie of the Week acclaim.

The Tigers went 3-2 in their season-opening tournament in Jacksonville, Fla., with two victories against Delaware State, one win against St. Bonaventure and both losses to host North Florida. In defeating the Tigers, the Ospreys ran their winning streak to 11 games and their record to 19-4.

Princeton has won three of its first five games of the season, which almost always opens against teams that have started their schedules a few weeks earlier than the Tigers, for the first time since 2009, when the then-defending Ivy League champions were also 3-2 through five games.

Schmidt went 10 for 19 over the weekend, leading the team in hits and batting .529 while slugging .684 with three doubles. She had three three-hit games of the five contests last weekend while also fielding all 17 chances successfully.

In her career debut, Christian threw 9 1/3 innings over two games, tossing 2 1/3 of hitless relief in an 8-3 win over Delaware State before one-hitting the Hornets later that day in a complete-game effort. She struck out seven and walked six in her shutout weekend.

Schmidt, whose honor is the second of her career, had Princeton's last Ivy League Player of the Week honor, on Mar. 13, 2012, while Liza Kuhn had Princeton's last Pitcher of the Week honor, on Apr. 10, 2012. Christian's Rookie of the Week honor ends a longer drought, as she is the first Tiger to win that award since Megan Weidrick '11 on Apr. 29, 2008.

The Tigers will head to Baltimore for a tournament co-hosted tournament by UMBC and Coppin State this weekend.
